In May, Steampunk Metal band FATE GEAR came to Europe for the 4th time! Founded in Tokyo in 2015, the members of FATE GEAR sure know how to rock internationally. With their Lost in Blood tour, they also visited Bremen in the North of Germany, allowing us to get a live impression of their powerful, storytelling songs.
Despite the name Lagerhaus, which translates into “warehouse” in German, the charming venue was hidden in the backstreets on the second floor above a restaurant. But this didn’t keep the audience from coming. Although the concert was not sold out, people flocked to the front of the stage, eagerly waiting for FATE GEAR’s concert to begin. And when the first tunes were played—not one second after the announced starting time—, the audience cheered, giving the band a warm welcome.
The audience was instantly caught by the hard riffs of guitarist Mina and vocalist Nana’s agitation, many of them knowing the Japanese lyrics. People were even singing along to lesser-known songs, only proving the fans’ dedication to the band. Nana’s announcements were in English and Japanese, and the crowd was hanging on her lips as the atmosphere heated up in the most positive way.
Surprisingly, although the audience mainly consisted of enthusiastic Metalheads, there was neither a mosh pit nor a circle pit, although powerful songs could easily be taken as a base. Instead, the fans energetically participated in any dance moves Nana requested them to do.
FATE GEAR delivered a perfect concert with vocals and instruments all on point. Band leader Mina’s high-class guitar play was simply mesmerizing, her fingers flying over the strings. All in all, this concert was a must-see, and it was obvious how much fun the band and fans had together, skillfully overcoming the language barrier.
If you have the chance to visit one of FATE GEAR’s shows, I can highly recommend it. The next chance for listeners outside of Japan will be their Canadian tour in August this year, where FATE GEAR will play four gigs and end their world tour.
